  • 256 Mb RAM or more for XP, higher for Vista.
  • DVD ROM for loading of software (CD ROM not suitable).
  • 2Gb available hard disc space.
  • Double-earphone headset with microphone. Inexpensive types commonly used for computer applications are adequate.
  • Windows XP (recommended), Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Ultimate.
  • Adobe Reader or similar PDF reader.
  • Keyboard.
  • External Mouse.
  • Spare USB port for security device.
  • Microphone input supported by sound card.
  • The use of large LCD displays is highly recommended.
  • Considerations in the choice of computer monitor:

The software is designed for XGA (1024x768), and that is the ideal screen resolution for this course. However, most computers produced in recent years have Widescreen displays, which have WXGA (typically 1280x800) resolution. They are useable, with the slight disadvantage that the RADAR map will be smaller, due to the reduced vertical dimension of the screen. Some adjustment of display resolution may be required to obtain the correct aspect ratio (width x height) for viewing movies, and that is detailed in the Student Brief for the first lesson in which the RADAR map is viewed.
